Lyft Urban Solutions expands into Sibiu, Romania
In our first foray into Romania, we’ve been selected with our partner Sustainable Urban Mobility Solutions SRL (SUMS) to deploy 540 FIT bikes, 49 Smart Solar Stations, and leading technology solutions to the beautiful, historic Transylvanian city of Sibiu for its new public bike-share system. Operated by the municipality, this sustainable urban bike-share solution is set to launch in 2021. Lyft Urban Solutions’s growth into world-class cities on several continents is an inspiring reminder that our trusted, innovative urban bike-share solutions — featuring best-in-class bikes, equipment, and technology — are in high demand.
“SUMS is very happy with this first success on Romanian territory and looking forward in deploying bike-sharing solutions developed by Lyft Urban Solutions, across Romania. This partnership allows us to deploy smart city solutions and meet the urban mobility needs of citizens for a better quality of life. ” Marian Ionut Istrate, General Manager, Sustainable Urban Mobility Solutions SRL (SUMS).
“It’s wonderful to see the passion for sustainable, healthy micromobility shared by so many unique cities all around the world,” says Luc Sabbatini, CEO of Lyft Urban Solutions. We couldn’t be prouder to enter the Romanian market and look forward to the deployment of this premier bike-share system, which we hope will be our first of many successes there. Let’s keep changing the world, one city at a time!”
Lyft Urban Solutions FIT bikes, Solar Stations, and smart technology solutions
Each of the 540 dynamic and lively FIT bikes we’ll be rolling out this fall will feature a light aluminum frame and 24-inch wheels. These happy FIT will be outfitted with multifunctional, theft-proof smart locks, so city-dwellers can make stops on their way, like popping into local stores on the way home from work, for example.
Versatility is the name of the game of our Solar Stations, which feature modular design, so docks can be easily reconfigured.
Active people, dynamic cities, healthy planet
We’re excited to see Sibiu’s citizens and tourists make the most of this highly-accessible network for their transit needs — whether it’s commuting to work or running important errands. Mayor Astrid Fodor has announced plans to build dedicated bike lanes throughout various popular transit routes and alongside the Cibin River. Needless to say, we’re all-in when it comes to providing the sustainable equipment and specialized skills as Sibiu embraces the collective power of bike sharing!
