Lyft Urban Solutions is proud to announce the launch of BicinRivas, a fully electric bikeshare system in Rivas-Vaciamadrid, Spain. Operated by the city in collaboration with Serveo, the new system includes a fleet of 439 ebikes and 42 smart charging stations.

A new era of bikeshare in Rivas-Vaciamadrid

Replacing the previous bikeshare system, BicinRivas introduces a fresh chapter in the city’s transportation landscape with its modern infrastructure and entirely electric fleet. This upgrade delivers an enhanced user experience and a stronger commitment to sustainability.

The new system is a fully docked one, with 35 grid-connected stations allowing for automatic and quick charging while ebikes are parked. This eliminates the need for manual battery swapping, easing the operational burden and reducing emissions associated with support vans typically used for that process. The result is a more eco-friendly and higher quality service that’s ready for riders.

BicinRivas also features Lyft Urban Solutions’ new mobile app, which made its successful European debut in Zaragoza, Spain, earlier this year. Riders can quickly locate and unlock bikes, manage their account, and enjoy a seamless interface designed to make biking in the city easier than ever.

Ebikes lead the micromobility revolution

The growing popularity of ebikes has transformed how cities approach bikeshare. In Spain, demand is surging: In Barcelona, 79% of all bikeshare trips in Q1 2024 were made on ebikes, even though they made up only 60% of the fleet. In Valladolid, the trend is even more striking: 79% of Biki rides in 2024 were taken on ebikes, which represent just 25% of the system. These figures reflect a clear preference for ebikes, which offer power, comfort, and broader accessibility.

This growing demand is driving a national shift toward fully electric bikeshare systems. Following Madrid’s Bicimad launch in 2023, Zaragoza’s Biki rollout in early 2025, and Bilbao’s deployment in June this year, Rivas-Vaciamadrid becomes the fourth city in Spain to deploy an all-electric network, and the latest to embrace a more modern, inclusive vision of mobility.

By going fully electric, Rivas-Vaciamadrid is not only responding to user preferences but also reinforcing a shared commitment to sustainability, accessibility, and innovation in public transportation.

Strengthening leadership in Spain

The launch of BicinRivas marks Lyft Urban Solutions’ eighth bikeshare system in Spain, reinforcing our role as a leader in electric micromobility across the country. From Barcelona and Madrid to Valladolid and now Rivas-Vaciamadrid, our partnership with Serveo continues to bring best-in-class bikeshare to cities committed to innovation and sustainability.

As more cities seek to reduce their environmental impact and promote healthier, more connected lifestyles, BicinRivas stands as a shining example of what’s possible. We’re proud to support Rivas-Vaciamadrid on this journey and excited to watch this system become an integral part of the city’s mobility future.
