Ebikes are now 10x more popular than pedal bikes in shared fleets, and cities have an opportunity to turn this growing demand into long-term success. 2025 was a record-breaking year for our Lyft-operated systems

Across the United States, bikeshare systems reached new ridership highs in 2025, reflecting sustained growth and strong demand for shared micromobility in major cities.

As reported in Greater Greater Washington: 

  • Bay Wheels in San Francisco Bay Area recorded 4.4 million rides, posting one of the largest annual ridership gains in the country with a 31% increase year over year.
  • Capital Bikeshare in Washington, DC broke its all-time ridership record with nearly 6.7 million trips, a 9% increase compared to the previous year—marking its fourth consecutive year of growth and reinforcing its position as the second-busiest system in the U.S.
  • Citi Bike in New York City, the country’s largest bikeshare system, logged close to 47 million rides, a 5% increase, while further expanding its footprint and service reach.
  • Bluebikes in Boston reached 4.6 million rides, while Divvy in Chicago recorded 5.6 million rides.

Bikeshare highlights from around the world 

  • 🇪🇸 Bicimad in Madrid recorded 13.7 million rides, marking a 39% increase compared to the previous year, and confirming its central role as a core mobility service across the city.
  • 🇪🇸 Barcelona’s Bicing has been recognized as a benchmark model for public bikeshare in Spain and worldwide, ranking as the fourth-largest bikeshare system in the world, behind Paris, New York City, and Mexico City. The recognition comes as the city advances plans to expand the network further.
  • 🇪🇸 Bizi, Zaragoza’s bikeshare system, celebrated its first anniversary, reaching over 6.5 million rides since launching in January 2025.
  • 🇪🇸 BiciCoruña continues its expansion in La Coruña, with new stations being added across the city to improve access to shared cycling and support everyday mobility.
  • 🇺🇸 CapMetro Bikeshare, Austin’s fully electric system, saw a major jump in ridership in 2025, with more than 380,000 ebike rides, reflecting a 275% increase compared to 2024 as the fleet transitioned to bikes powered by Lyft Urban Solutions.
  • 🇺🇸 Tugo Bike Share expands in Tucson, launching five new stations on the westside of the city to bring safer, more affordable biking options to additional neighborhoods and improve equity across the system.
